Houston, TEXAS, July 7, 2020…The Dawson Racing D3+Transformers team took a sweep of Races 4, 5 and 6 in Round 1 of the new D3eSports Cup virtual championship at Brands Hatch in Kent, England this past weekend.
Ben Whetstone, Dawson Racing’s Data Engineer and Sim Test Driver, won all three 15-lap races in the second week of the five-week D3eSports Cup series. The virtual racing series, run on the Forza Motorsport 7 platform, launched on June 28 and competes on consecutive Sundays through July 26.
Brandon Wang, driver of the Zotac entry, doubled up on second place finishes, while pro driver Nelson Mason, in the D3+Transformers Pro/Am car, took second in the final race. Third place went to a variety of drivers including Scott Cowan in the STEM.org entry in Race 1, Pablo Gonzales, Whetstone’s teammate in the D3+Transformers, was third in Race 2, and Don Magnusson, Mason’s D3+Transformers Pro-Am teammate grabbed the last podium spot in Race 3.
“We had another great day of racing for D3eSports Cup championship for Races 4, 5, and 6,” said Simon Dawson, VP Marketing, Dawson Racing. “Although Ben clearly is the driver to beat, it was great to see a variety of drivers finding their footing, getting more comfortable with the virtual cars and competitors. I’m really proud of all our D3+Transformers drivers because every one of them had a podium finish. We’re looking good and I hope they can continue to stay on the top of the leader board during this championship.”
